Each year we honor an individual, couple, or group as the Elkader Sweet Corn Days Grand Marshal(s). Our Grand Marshal(s) MUST have displayed self-less acts to the community through outstanding service, pride and commitment in the Elkader community through volunteerism and/or support. Their service must be above and beyond the nominee’s profession or normal call of duty. *VOTING CLOSED ON JULY 9TH* Your answer will be anonymous. ***Multiple votes from the same IP address (device) will NOT be counted.***

Little Miss Elkader & Little Mr. Corn Husker Competition

Now taking applications for Elkader LITTLE Royalty. Open to all who either live in Elkader or entering Central grades 2nd-5th grade, which means you can have a Volga, St. Olaf, Farmersburg, or Elkport address. All little contestants get to partake in the parade, regardless of crowning. *If you were unable to send in your application ahead of time, please bring it with you to judging.

Now taking applications for Miss Elkader & Mr. Corn Husker. Open to all who either live in Elkader or entering Central 11th or 12th grade, which means you can have a Volga, St. Olaf, Farmersburg, or Elkport address. Scholarship Opportunity of $200 for Miss Elkader & Mr. Corn Husker. *If you were unable to send in your application ahead of time, please bring it with you to judging.

2023 Schedule for judging and crowning:

Forms must be completed prior to judging.

Judging is Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 5:00PM at St. Joseph’s Parish Center.

Crowning is Friday, July 28, 2023 at 5:45PM at Founders Park before the band starts. Please meet Jenna by the stage around 5:30 PM.

Parade is Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 2:00 PM- meet by Peace United Church. Meet Jenna at 1:45pm to get candy. Pick up your child at Founders’ Park following the parade. 

Mr Corn Husker and Miss Elkader Responsibilities to obtain $200 scholorship:

  • Serve as a positive role model for the community
  • Be present in the downtown area during Sweet Corn Days events
    • Must participate in the Elkader Sweet Corn Days parade
    • Note, you will not be able to attend the the Saturday night age 19+ Cornstock event.
  • Assist during Elkader Sweet Corn Days:
    • Help with selling Carnival Tickets Friday night from 7 – 9
    • Help with selling Carnival Tickets Saturday from 11am – 1pm and immediately after the parade until 5pm
    • Help serve lunch at the Elkader Chamber Golf Tournament
    • Announce Friday Night entertainment
    • Serve sweet corn with the Elkader Fire Department
    • Be available to help with various activities: softball tournament, bean bag tournament, family fun night, set up and tear down, Shed your Threads run, Donut hole eating contest, Hoefer Family Kiddie Tractor Pull, etc. 
  • Optional- participate in the following parades, if possible:
    • Garnavillo 4th of July
    • Guttenberg’s Stars and Stripes 
    • Saint Olaf Uff-Da Days
    • Edgewood Rodeo Days
    • Elkader’s St. Paddy’s day
    • Strawberry Point Days
      *You are responsible for figuring out dates and finding a vehicle.*
  • Assist in creating city event posters
  • Complete three readings at the Elkader Public Library-Contact them for dates and times

Scholarship:

Scholarship of $200 will be awarded to Mr. Corn Husker AND Miss Elkader at Central’s award night with completion of the responsibilities above. A copy of the college acceptance letter is required.
